The Lake Orion Board of Education held its organizational meeting for the 2007-2008 school year on Wednesday.
Among the things decided, the board elected their new officers.
Jim Weidman was nominated and accepted the position of board president, a position that was vacated after former president Leeann Bartley decided to not run for reelection when her term expired on June 30.
Mary Jo Burchart is the new vice-president for the coming school year. She formerly served as treasurer for the school board.
Trustee Janet Wolverton will fill Burchart’s former spot as school board treasurer, and secretary Tina Peterson will continue her position, one that she has held for several years now.
For more information about the new school board officers and the newly elected trustee, Tiffany Weber-Phillips, see next week’s Review.
The board also set and accepted their meeting schedule for the 2007-2008 school year, which can be found on the district website at www.lakeorion.k12.mi.us.
Friday Update
At Monday’s Lake Orion Village Council meeting, council members will receive public comment regarding Ordinance 7.11, a proposal that would allow the development of shorter term parking in downtown Lake Orion sometime in the future.
According to Village Manager JoAnn Van Tassel, the current parking ordinance allows for two-hour parking in downtown, and Ordinance 7.11 would permit the Village Council to adopt shorter parking if they choose to do so down the road.
The adoption of Ordinance 7.11, which may occur at Monday’s meeting, will not develop any short term parking spots, but merely, as Village Attorney Gary Dovre said, give council ‘an ordinance on the books to facilitate it.?
It would require a separate council resolution, identifying designated spaces and a time limit, for the development of any short term parking spots in downtown, and while this may be looked at sometime in the future, it will not be considered at Monday’s meeting.
The Lake Orion Village Council meeting will begin Monday (July 23) at 7:30 p.m. in Village Hall.
