Frederick Shinavier

Frederick “Fred” Shinavier, born on May 28, 1940, in Detroit, Michigan, peacefully passed away on January 8, 2025, at the age of 84. Fred was preceded in death by his parents Allried and Theresa Shinavier (Sams). Fred was raised in River Rouge, Michigan, he later moved to Allen Park. In 1978, Fred settled in Lake Orion where he raised his family.
Fred honorably served in the United States Coast Guard, enlisting in 1957 and completing his service in 1961. Following his military service, Fred spent the next 45 years with General Motors. He began as a toolmaker, dedicating 35 years to mastering his craft, and later transitioned into an engineering role for an additional decade.
Fred was the beloved husband of the late Janet Shinavier, with whom he shared nearly 52 years of marriage. He was a devoted father to the late Dean (Pam, now married to John Conover), Mark (Cathy), and Gary. Fred’s legacy extends to his role as a proud grandfather, lovingly known as “Papa,” to Cameron, Ryan (Sabrina), John, Andrew, Shelby, Matthew, and Tyler. Fred was a cherished brother by Larry (Sharon), Linda (Donny), Deanna (the late Dominic), the late Joanna, and Dennis.
An avid outdoorsman, Fred found joy in boating, golfing, and hunting. He was a familiar presence at his grandchildren’s sporting events, always their enthusiastic supporter. Above all, Fred treasured moments spent with his family, creating memories that will be cherished by all who knew him.
Fred’s life was a testament to dedication, love, and service. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.
Funeral services with military honors were held on Monday, January 13, 2025 and 11 a.m. at Sparks-Griffin Funeral Home, Lake Orion. The family will received friends on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. and on Monday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service.
