Three former Lake Orion baseball players earned special distinctions earlier this month, led by Nate Recknagel’s National Player of the Week award (given by Louisville Slugger).
The University of Michigan first baseman hit five home runs, including a walk-off shot against Eastern Michigan, to help the #23 Wolverines improve to 28-8 on the season.
Recknagel’s 16 homers on the year are just three shy of a team mark for home runs in a season and he sits in second place on the school’s all-time home run list.
The U-M senior was joined by two former teammates in earning distinctions last week, Neil Medchill and Bobby Clouse.
Medchill, an outfielder at Oklahoma State, was named the Phillips 66 Big 12 Conference Player of the Week for April 14-20. In five games that week, he hit .524, with two home runs and six RBIs.
The Cowboys used Medchill’s hot hitting to earn their first road series sweep against Texas in 12 years. On the season, Medchill is hitting .407.
Clouse, meanwhile, earned Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association honors for the week of April 15.
He is an outfielder at Albion.
Clouse hit 10-for-19 as the Britons won four-of-five league games. He was credited with eight RBIs and scored four runs.
He slugged a pair of doubles and a triple.
