Food drive

Goodrich-A canned food drive turned into a battle of the sexes at Lakeview Community Church.
The food drive was part of the church’s Vacation Bible School, which took place June 18-22.
Ultimately, the girls prevailed, besting the boys with a total of 213 canned goods to their 158.
Food was delivered to the Ortonville Community Emergency Fund (OCEF) and Davison’s Outreach East on June 25.
Vacation Bible School Coordinator Jana Waters said the prize for the winning team was control over a slingshot during a water balloon fight.

Independence Elementary students including, from left, Sophia Middleton, Owen Poole, Ryan Legg, Mason Pagel and Brayden Oguin, along with Clarkston Community Schools Deputy Superintendent Shawn Ryan, at left, and Principal Chris Turner, are collecting peanut butter and jelly for local families in need. Spread the Love donations will be used to stock the shelves at Lighthouse of Clarkston. Now in its third year, the food drive now includes all schools in Clarkston. Drop off jars at local schools, or purchase peanut butter and jelly at a special booth at Neiman’s Family Market. For information, call 248-620-6116.
