For the third straight summer, the Lake Orion fireworks show will be shot entirely from barges on the water.
Two years ago, a barge broke loose from its anchorage, forcing a lengthy delay. Last year, Police Chief Jerry Narsh said the show was hard to see from several spots on shore.
Details on this year’s shooting spot were still being worked out at press time, but police officials, along with Chief Pyrotechnics Operator Glenn Stokes, are doing their best to find an ideal location in the bay near Squaw Island without compromising safety.
Look for more on a precise shooting location in next week’s Review.
One thing is for certain; the show will undoubtedly live up to its lofty standards.
‘I think the Lake Orion fireworks show is one of the best in the state,? Narsh said. ‘Glenn does just a phenomenal job.?
In the meantime, some passes for Green’s Park viewing still remain available through village hall.
Passes cost $1 for village residents, with children 12 and under and seniors getting in for free; passes for Orion Township residents are $4, or $2; and passes for non-residents are $5, or $3.
The park closes at 8 p.m., but will be reopened at 8:30 p.m. for spectators.
Narsh said the gravel parking area at the park will open for viewers on a first-come, first-served basis once the park reopens. The paved driving areas in the park will be reserved for emergency vehicles only, though visitors with handicapped passes will be able to use it as a drop-off/pick-up site.
