Six Oxford firefighters received an award from the Oakland County Medical Control Board for their quick response in saving the life of Oxford’s Joseph Falvey.
Assistant Chief David Creech, Captain Ron Jahlas, Randy Darnell, Benjamin Frantz, Kelly Kilgore and Justin Templeton received the Excellence in EMS Care award for their run to Falvey’s house on June 30.
Falvey went into cardiac arrest, and due to their excellent training and quick response, they were able to revive him.
According to Falvey, he was flatline for 15-17 minutes before they were able to restart his heart. The firefighters were able to find a way to keep enough oxygen flowing to his brain , so he didn’t sustain any neurological damage.
Today, he’s made a full recovery and is already back to his normal life nearly three months after the incident.
‘They saved my life…the community as a whole is very lucky to have these skilled professionals ready when they need them. It was me this time, but it could be anybody the next time,? he said.
Falvey was in attendance at the ceremony, which was held on Wednesday at the Oakland County Medical Control Board’s office.
‘It was the most deserved award…I was proud to have the opportunity to be there and be part of it,? Falvey said.
