Fire chief’s first year a good one, board says

Addison Fire Chief Jerry Morawski got a vote of confidence from the Fire Board as he received a positive evaluation of his first year as the township’s Fire Chief.
‘It is in the opinion of the fire board that during 2010, Chief Morawski has met, and in some cases exceeded his required duties as stated in the job description,? Fire Board member Erich Sneft said at the Jan. 17 township board meeting.
Sneft also noted that the fire department, as a whole, met and exceeded ‘the required duties and services to Addison Township.?
Morawski said the credit for the positive evaluation should not just go to him, but to the whole team as well.
‘Everyone who is a member of the fire department and township should be proud of the fire department for what we have achieved and the group of people that we have,? Morawski added.
Sneft noted that points of emphasis for the evaluation included career development, training, mutual aid to fire departments and operational goals set forth by the fire board.
Addison Township Supervisor Bruce Pearson was encouraged with the Fire Board’s positive review.
‘The fire board is setting the pace for the fire department and that means a lot, especially to the men working in the fire department,? he said.
‘As far as picking the Chief, you picked the right man,? he added.
During 2010, Morawski was able to purchase a new ambulance, secure two federal grants, one for $137,000 and another for $5,100 and keep all officers current on their training.
Morawski has been fire chief since November of 2009 after the former fire chief, George Spencer, resigned in March 2009.
Sneft noted the fire board received positive feedback from residents, firefighters and neighboring fire departments during the evaluation process. He told the township board a neighboring fire department called Morawski ‘a valued member of our team.?
An objective Morawski has for 2011 is to create a website dedicated to the fire department, so community members can see its history, job performance and the types of incidents it responds to.
