Field narrowed to nine for Goodrich superintendent

Goodrich – The search for a new district superintendent moved one step closer as the board of education officially screened out 11 applicants, narrowing the field to nine.
Director Carl Hartman from the Michigan Association of School Boards conducted the screening process at the Oct. 15 school board meeting. Hartman was hired by the district’s school board to assist with the superintendent search after Superintendent Kim Hart was put on administrative leave in July. She accepted a superintendent position at the Whitmore Lake Public Schools in August.
Hartman assigned all 20 candidates a number to protect their confidentiality during the public screening process. As he announced each number, the school board voted by a show of hands.
As some of the residents became increasingly anxious about the 11 applicants being screened out, resident Mark Griffiths spoke up, saying he wanted to know more about each candidate before the 11 were screened out.
‘We have seriously considered every candidate who has applied,? said Hartman. The board members have had as many as nine days to go over all of the applications. Those that did not get voted into the final nine candidates by the board, did not meet the criteria established by the school board, community and staff. It is important for everyone to have faith in the process and confidence that I know what I am doing.?
Hartman said the first round interviews are more formal than second round interviews.
‘Each candidate will be asked the same questions at the first interview. The second interview will be less formal because there will be follow-up questions for them to respond to. I am working with the board to do this process and I believe they want the same things you do. We are looking for the best superintendent to help this community, that is why we hired Larry Allen to be the interim superintendent until a new one is hired.?
