With an all-Republican primary ballot, this year’s Atlas Township board was decided in the primary election.
In Atlas Township, unchallenged supervisor Paul Amman (R) will remain in office with 386 votes; unchallenged clerk Tere Onica (R) received 388 votes, and unchallenged treasurer Ann Marie Slagle (R) received 380 votes. Of three contestants for two Atlas trustee seats, incumbent Scott Statson (R) remains in office with 257 votes, while challenger Barry June (R) won a trustee seat with 325 votes, replacing trustee Emery Bennett, who chose not to seek re-election. Challenger Jill Suppes (R) received 183 votes.
No total was available by press time as to how many of Atlas Township’s 5,321 registered voters turned out for Tuesday’s election.
In Hadley Township, unchallenged clerk Mary Ellen Painter (R) remains in office with 273 votes; unchallenged treasurer Lloyd Broecker (R) received 277 votes; and unchallenged trustees Paul Bigler (R) and Richard Brandt (R) received 235 and 219 votes, respectively.
Incumbent supervisor William (Bill) Dutko (R) received 250 votes. In November, Dutko will face challenger Mary Sweeney (D), who received 170 votes. Sweeney beat challenger Timothy McKinney (D), who received 33 votes for the Democratic bid.
‘I think the numbers are encouraging,? said Dutko. ‘I think the numbers are representative of the reputation I feel I have sincerely earned in the community. I still have 100 percent-plus commitment to this community, I enjoy what I do, and I’m very hopeful the community will continue to support me as in the past.?
Precinct turnout in Hadley Township totalled 376 out of 2,036 registered voters in precinct 1; and 211 out of 1,292 registered voters in precinct 2, a nearly 18 percent turnout, said Broecker.
