Friends Shannon Disalle, Mary Smith, Mikayla Thibodeau, Annie Toohey plan to attend World Youth Day next summer.
It’ll cost about $3,000 each because it’s in Madrid, Spain, so fund raising has already started.
‘We’ll be fund raising all year,? said Smith. ‘I want to share experiences with people my age, and grow in my Catholic faith.?
‘We’ll get to see the pope and meet with youth from around the world,? Thibodeau said.
‘There’ll be around 500,000 youth, all together for the same purpose, to grow in our relationship with Christ,? Toohey said.
‘Everyone says it’s one of the best experiences in their lives,? Disalle said.
The girls, all students at Everest Collegiate High School in Independence Township, hosted a backyard festival, with swimming, ice cream bar, animals, organized games, prizes, and raffle, Aug. 20, at Smith’s house.
‘We’ve been planning the festival since July,? she said.
‘This is all by the girls ? they’ve taken it on all by themselves,? said Beth Smith, Mary’s mother.
