Atlas Twp.- A pair of crashes on M-15 last week has area law enforcement stepping up patrols.
At about 6:28 p.m., Oct. 30, Genesee County Sheriff deputies responded to M-15 and Hill Lane for a two-car accident.
According to police reports, a 2004 Chevrolet van was traveling northbound on M-15, driven by a 57-year-old Ortonville woman. The woman lost control of her vehicle and crossed over the center line into the southbound lanes, where she collided with a 2004 Chevrolet Impala driven by a 48-year-old Goodrich woman.
The van driver was killed and her 12-year-old passenger was injured and treated at the scene by Genesee County Sheriff paramedics. He was transported to Hurley Medical Center in Flint. The driver of the Impala was extricated from her vehicle by the township fire department and transported to Genesys Regional Medical Center in Holly.
On Oct.31, a 31-year-old Davison man died following a two-car crash at State Road and Lippincott Boulevard, about six miles north of the Hill Lane accident.
According to police reports, the man’s Chevrolet van collided with a Dodge Caravan with four occupants. The Caravan driver, a 35-year-old Davison woman, and her passengers were taken to McLaren Regional Medical Center with injuries that were not life-threatening. A passenger in the Chevrolet, an 18-year-old Dryden man, was taken to Hurley Medical Center.
Both M-15 crashes have prompted the Genesee County Sheriff’s Department to add deputies on the 12-mile stretch of M-15 from I-69 south to the Oakland County Line.
Undersheriff James Gage said at least 10 fatal crashes have occurred on that stretch of M-15 over the past few years.
‘Drivers will see more patrols along that stretch of highway,? he said. Patrols will be looking for drivers committing major violations’including passing on the shoulder of the road and in no passing zones. ‘From tailgating to speeding, we’ll be watching.?
