Students from Rachel Money and Mary Kraniak’s fifth grade classes at Oxford Elementary School had the rare opportunity to meet explorers from history on Monday, and they only had to come to school to meet famous history makers like Leif Erickson and Vasco da Gama.
Money prepared and conducted an Explorer’s Convention where students dressed up as a famous explorer and learned all they could about the individual. At the sound of her whistle, they mingled for a few minutes with other students to teach about their history and effect on the world.
The students had to prepare a written report on their explorer, create a poster and be able to discuss their explorer with those who are unfamiliar with the individual.
