Fame photo contest winners

An esitmated 250 people viewed the 40 photos entered in the FAME (Fine Arts: A Mainstream in Education ) photo contest at Goodrich High School, 8029 South Gale Road, on Jan. 20.
Winners were selected from the following 9 catagories: digital photographs of landscapes; digital photos of people; digitally manipulated photographs; misicellanious digital photos; 35 millimeter color photos of landscape, 35 mm photographs people and miscellanious; 35 mm black and white photos of people, 35 mm black and white photos of people and 35 mm black and white miscellanious photographs.
Winners received a blue ribbon and will have their photos published in upcoming editions of The Citizen.
FAME box office manager, Caren Huizenga, said she was pleased with the event and received many inquiries as to whether there would be another photo contest next year.
‘That was a vote of approval,? Huizenga said. ‘I would think we’ll probably do (a photography contest) again.?
Digital entries were judged by flint resident Mike Watkins,43, a graphic arts instructor at Baker College and fulltime art director at Allied Mailing and Printing in Fenton.
Kearsly High School art teacher Mike Lilly,58, judged the 35 mm entries. Lilly obtained his master of fine arts degree from the Sanfransico Art Institute and has been teaching since 1986.
‘We definatly wanted people outside our area (to judge the competition), so there wouldn’t be any partiality,? Huizenga said.
Huizenga said she was impressed with the number of young people who entered the competition.
‘We had kids enter ages 10 and up,? Huizenga said.
One young participant, Matthew Brandon, 12, won two blue ribbons. Goodrich High School Junior Jennifer Buskirk also took first place with two of her pictures.
FAME works to educate the community through different art experiances and has thus far disbursed over $4,000 earned from presentations back into the schools in the form of workshops and artist in residency programs.
