Goodrich area schools? fine arts program, FAME, will be hosting its final event of the season on Friday.
Blending American jazz and Irish folk music, Jazz from the Shamrock Shore features a harp, Irish flute, penny whistles, and Saxophones.
‘I can speak from wonderful experience how much fun they are,? said Donna Heiderer Co-Director of the FAME program. ‘The quality of music is phenomenal. They are true musicians.?
‘Some people are a little scared of jazz because it has its own style to it,? said Heiderer, ‘but he makes it very accessible.?
Art created by Goodrich High School students will be on display throughout the evening in addition to a silent auction featuring student artwork. Bidding will take place 6:30-7:30 p.m. and during intermission, with all proceeds going to FAME (Fine Arts: a Mainstream in Education). Auction winners will be announced prior to the second act.
Through his involvement with FAME, Collins is offering a workshop for the community the day after the performance. The workshop will take place 10-11:30 a.m. on April 8 at Goodrich High School’s Raymond C. Green Center for Performing Arts.
‘I would really encourage people to dust off their instruments, set a positive example for the kids and come out,? said Heiderer.
Additionally, the bands rhythm section will be working with middle and high school students, as part of FAME’s effort incorporate education with entertainment.
