On a road that Township Building Official Tom Berger calls ‘treacherous,? a crumbling retaining wall is an issue his office is monitoring closely.
The retaining wall, made of timber, is one of several such walls on Heights Road, where the road winds around Lake Orion and sits close to houses on the southern side.
Township Supervisor Jerry Dywasuksaid it is ‘a safety hazard that we’ve been looking at for a few years.?
‘The wall is so close to the road right-of-way that people hit it,? Berger added.
Falling debris into the road is a concern as is the state of the wood wall, which Berger said may be rotting due to its age.
Dywasuk said the owner of the property is really responsible for the upkeep of the wall.
Berger noted that he had not yet contacted the owner of the property, but will do what he can to solve the problem.
