Essayists honored

Clarkston Optimist Club honored three Clarkston High School students in its Essay Contest with medals and gift certificates, March 30.
The winners, Jacqueline Gipe, first place; Nicholas Pike, second; and Chloe Smiley, third, wrote about the importance of education in their lives and future.
Gipe’s winning essay was forwarded to the district level, competing for a $2,500.00 scholarship.
The Optimists honored high school and Sashabaw Middle School essayings with a pizza lunch, March 16.
The high schoolers read their essays and discussed how they plan what to write and how they go about writing and re-writing essays.
Language Arts lead teachers Lisa Crawford and Kristine Butcher, Optimist Club President Jeff Reed, and Essay Contest committee members Lisa Wigent and Alan Partington were also in attendance.
