Those who enjoy visiting Green’s Park in the summer may be excited to hear that they can also go to enjoy the fall colors there through mid-October.
At the request of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee, the village council voted (at their Aug. 13 meeting) to extend park hours through Sunday, Oct. 14, rather than shutting the park down right after Labor Day.
According to Rosemary Ford, of the advisory committee, the idea of keeping Green’s Park open longer into the fall has been something that community members have asked for in the past.
Ford said that the committee has been told that it would be ‘so nice to go there in fall and have their lunch.?
Keeping Green’s Park open through mid-October will be on a trial basis, Ford added.
According to Ford, some precautions will be taken throughout the park to ensure people’s safety in regards to the water.
Since lifeguards go off duty after Labor Day, the beach will also be closed. The swim raft will be pulled out of the water, and a fence will run along the dock to keep individuals from using it.
Signs reading ‘beach closed,? ‘no lifeguard on duty? and ‘no swimming? will be posted in the park.
Ford added that, at the request of the council, a porta-john will be brought into the park, as the bathrooms will be closed during their normal ‘winterizing? schedule.
Council member Julie Drabik believed that keeping the park open was a good idea as people can still enjoy their lunch there, as well as utilize the new beach volleyball court.
Green’s Park will be open, as normal for those with park passes, from around 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., through Oct. 14. The beach will close after this weekend.
