Goodrich’s Kirk Elsworth recently saw his first playing time on offense as a Division I college football player.
Elsworth, now a freshman running back at Western Michigan University, got on the field in the fourth quarter during the Broncos? Sept. 9 game at Mid-American Conference rival Toledo. The Rockets defeated the Broncos 56-23.
Elsworth carried the ball six times for 29 yards, including a 28-yard run, and blocked a punt on special teams. Elsworth also made two tackles on the Broncos? special teams unit.
Elsworth’s first collegiate carry came in the fourth quarter, with Toledo ahead 49-14. He ran the ball five yards to the Western 39-yard line. However, the Broncos could not score on that possession and had to punt.
On the Rockets? ensuing possession, Elsworth blocked a punt by Toledo punter Brett Kern at the Rockets? 14-yard line, which was recovered by Western redshirt freshman Jamarko Simmons in the Toledo end zone for a Broncos touchdown.
