Elsworth, Haggadone lead Goodrich cagers to rout of LakeVille

Goodrich’s varsity girls basketball team has won their most two recent games going away ? presenting Coach Jason Gray with opportunities to have the girls refine their skills.
A recent example came Tuesday, Sept. 12 as the host Martians easily defeated LakeVille 64-22, improving to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in Genesee Area Conference play. The Martians led 23-4 after the first quarter and 48-12 at halftime.
Kortni Elsworth led the Martians with 18 points, while Autumn Haggadone added 11.
Gray said keeping the girls focused when they have the game in hand, as has been the case recently, can be challenging.
‘Really, we try to focus on doing a couple things right,? he said. ‘We try to allow as few offensive rebounds as possible, and we try to see if we can get a couple passes in the post on offense. We’re emphasizing a couple different things, and hopefully, we’ll continue to improve.?
The Martians also won handily Thursday, Sept. 7 at Goodrich, defeating visiting Mt. Morris 64-10. Goodrich led 19-0 after the first period and 34-4 at halftime.
Paige Plant and Haggadone led the Martians with nine points each, while Hannah Nothhelfer and Jolynn Zirnhelt added eight each. Brandi Kushuba added seven rebounds and seven steals.
