Ortonville – Although their name implies a time faded dull glimmer, the Dusty Diamond Dancers light up their senior audiences.
‘The group really makes a connection with the seniors,? said choreographer and dance instructor Connie Frendt.
With a backdrop of the American flag the plucky Dusty Diamond Dancers will open an hour long show of country western toe tapping and jiving to the dramatic swing of The Glenn Miller Band.
Booked in the Oakland County area through mid-2005, the plucky troop of 13 dancers range in age from 55 to 77.
‘These dancers do this because it gives them something to focus on and they love doing it,? said Frendt, adding that one of the members is a man who often engages the audience members to take a few swings around the dance floor with the group.
‘He always gets the residents to dance and participate in the show,? she said.
A dance teacher for more than 20 years Frendt said the group put a routine together with her choreography, they began to entertain at area group homes and senior facilities.
Since then, they have become so popular that they are booked in area facilities until mid-2005.
‘The group just really took off, I think because they are so laid back and have fun with it,? said Frendt.
