It’s not exactly a case of musical Dumpsters, but Sagebrush Cantina owner Dia Zaraga’s request to move his Dumpster from village property to the lot behind his restaurant, may be music to the ears of all involved.
Zaraga, who earlier sought permission to have the Dumpster placed on village property south of the restaurant, asked the Village Council last Monday if he can now relocate the receptical to his own property.
The restaurant owner cited the convenience and safety of his employees who must carry out the trash at night and during foul weather conditions.
Moving the Dumpster could also satisfy the wishes of some neighboring businesses which have complained of finding trash on their properties since the Cantina reopened in early December.
Zaraga said the eight-yard Dumpster will meet the same specifications as requested earlier, and be placed in a masonry enclosure with a gate.
He added that the restaurant has daily trash pickup, which requires easy access by truck, something the new location provides.
In addition to a new location for the Dumpster, Zaraga requested a little more time to complete construction of the dumpster’s enclosure.
After granting the restaurant owner more time for construction of the enclosure, Village Council members called for Zaraga to move forward quickly on all matters related to his temporary occupancy permit.
‘We need to have a full site plan, and all of the revisions you’ve made have to be addressed,? said Village Manager JoAnn Van Tassel. ‘All the loose ends need to be taken care of. That is what is meant by a full site plan.?
Village Attorney Gary Dovre was more blunt.
‘It is well past time to take care of all these items before February 20, when your temporary occupancy runs out,? Dovre told Zaraga.
Zaraga asked the council if his business would be closed down should something unforseen occur that further delayed meeting certain deadlines.
‘It would not be good for you, for us or the community to have your doors close,? said Council member Ken Van Portfliet.
‘But we’re asking you to wrap this up,? he added. ‘Put it in the hands of your consultants.?
