The Clarkston golf team had one of their worst performances of the year in the most important meet of the season to date, but bounced back to put a silver lining on their week.
Where Clarkston faltered was at the first league tournament held during the Eccentric Tournament on May 4. The team shot a combined score of 408, which landed them in sixth place amongst eight league rivals. Seaholm was tops in the OAA with a combined score of 330.
‘We have no excuses. It was a beautiful day. The course was long, but all the teams had to use the same tees. We just didn’t play well,? said Clarkston Coach Larry Sherrill.
Jackie Schram led the Wolves with a 90 at the league tournament. Also scoring for Clarkston were Lu Kuhta (104), Lyndsey Kitson (107) and Lauren Moore (107).
After their poor showing on May 4, the Wolves were more like Phoenixes as they rose from their own ashes to win the nine hole Athens Scramble on May 6. Not only did Clarkston win the Athens Scramble, which has been held for 28 years, the Wolves tied a tourney record with a five-under par score of 30.
‘In a scramble you have to make putts and we did all day,? said Sherrill.
The four competitiors Sherrill took to the scramble were Schram, Kuhta, Kitson and Ashley Blanc.
The Wolves final dual meet of the season against Farmington on May 10 finished too late for this edition of The Clarkston News.
Next up for Clarkston is the second league tournament of the season on May 16.
