A Mother’s Wish, a local foundation inspired by the late Kathy Luby, has been made a reality by many of her close friends. The foundation’s first annual 5K run/walk and 10K run to benefit local families affected by breast cancer takes place on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2011, 9 a.m., at Lake Orion High School.
‘The event is a joint effort between Lake Orion Community Enrichment and Team Luby. ‘The foundation’s goal is to support the emotional and physical journey breast cancer patients and their loved ones must go through as a result of a diagnosis.
The course will take walkers and runners through school trails and the Roundtree subdivision. ‘Persons can register for the event in advance via the secure Lake Orion Community Education website (www.lakeorion.k12.mi.us/CommunityEd.htm). The entry fee is $25 before Sept. 25; $30 after this date. ‘Race t-shirts will be given to all pre-registered entrants. ‘Awards will be given to the top three finishers in each division, with special honors to the top overall male and female runners. ‘Pre-race entertainment will be provided by Lake Orion’s Carl Zoolkoski and the DJ Crashers.
