Dragons win first game

After being handed their 10th consecutive loss by the Berkley Bears, the Dragons boys? varsity basketball team rallied for their first win of the season against Stoney Creek two days later.
They beat the Cougars 52-47.
Coach Lance Davis said the win was the result of several good practices and the game against Berkley.
‘The fruits of their labor were rewarded,? he said. ‘All the guys stepped up to play basketball.?
The score was close, 9-7, at the end of the first quarter. The Dragons outscored them again in the second quarter 10-8 to tie it up 17-17 at halftime.
‘We haven’t produced well in the third quarter (in previous games,? Davis said.
But against Stoney Creek, the tide turned. The Dragons scored 19 points in the third quarter to the Cougars? 13.
By the fourth quarter, Lake Orion was up by 11 points.
Then, the Cougars made a run and brought the game to within one point.
‘They made a good run at us,? Davis said.
But then, Ian Monk hit a 3-pointer, followed by a lay-up by Derek Schrauben.
Another couple buckets, including free throws after the Stoney Creek coach drew a technical foul, sealed the deal for the Dragons.
‘The boys are starting to believe in what they’re doing and beginning to trust each other,? Davis said. ‘They’re playing for each other. We played with passion.?
