Lake Orion defeated Stoney Creek in both games of a doubleheader on Monday. In game one, the Dragons took a late lead in the game by scoring 7 runs in the sixth inning when Ryan Kolp hit a double, Andrew Nepjuk walked, Joe Slayton followed with a single, Jim Scibor walked, Andre Orselli walked, Travis VandenHeuvel hit a single and finishing up the inning with another double by Kolp.
Steven Wessell earned the win for the Dragons. He tossed four innings, giving up zero runs, three hits, striking out two, and walking none. Tyler Moses started the game, pitching three innings, allowing four runs, six hits, and striking out four.
Lake Orion had 11 hits in the game. Kolp, Orselli, and Slayton each collected multiple hits for the Dragons.
The Dragons seized the lead early in game two of the doubleheader with 15 hits to help seal the 11-3 victory. Capturing the lead in the first inning was Andre Orselli hitting a home run on a 2-0 count, scoring two runs.
Lake Orion finished the game by scoring three runs in the seventh inning. The Dragons scored on a single by Travis VandenHeuvel and a single by Casey Stironek.
Orselli earned the win for the Dragons, pitching six innings, giving up three runs, six hits, and striking out six.
The Dragons record is 20-11 overall and 11-3 in the OAA Red.
The Dragons will be playing at home against Stoney Creek on Wednesday after this paper goes to print, in the third game of the series. –S.C.
