The Lake Orion Dragons won their first OAA Red Championship in five years by defeating Farmington Unified 4-0 on Thursday night. Lake Orion went 9-0-1 in their final ten OAA Red games to lock up the top spot in the division.
The Dragons win came in front of a packed LO student section that was rocking the entire night.
TJ Hirschfield got the party started halfway through the first period when he scored his 15th goal of the season off a pass from linemate Jacob Helzer.
The second period was all Lake Orion as the Dragons added on three more goals to take a commanding four goal lead. Defenseman Josh Frketich scored two in the stanza, one coming on the power play and one at even strength, and Conner Graham picked up a nice shorthanded breakaway goal.
Jack Barker stopped all 28 of the shots he faced to pick up his third shutout of an excellent senior season.
On Saturday, the Dragons celebrated their senior teammates during Senior Night at Detroit Skating Club.
LO parents and players congratulated Drew Guidotti, Kyle Roberts, Joe Briskey, Dillon McCallum, Josh Frketich, Darren Newman, and Jack Barker on a terrific senior campaign and thanked the players for their hard work.
The Dragons then faced off against Reeths-Puffer and ended up skating to a 3-3 tie.
Dragon goals were scored by the Potyk-Graham-Briskey line.
Gabe Potyk and Joe Briskey notched their goals in the first period, while Graham scored his midway through the second period.
The third was scoreless and neither team could get one past the goal line in overtime.
Lake Orion now prepares for the MHSAA Tournament with their first game on Tuesday at the Detroit Skating Club.
The Dragons will be playing against long-time playoff rival Utica Eisenhower. LO beat Eisenhower earlier in the season 5-4 in OT.
