LAKE ORION — Registration for the Chalk Art Competition at the annual Dragon on the Lake festival is now open.

The Orion Art Center’s annual Dragon on the Lake returns Aug. 25-28 in downtown Lake Orion. The event features dozens of vendors as well as food, fun, music, Dragon Boat Races and the Chalk Art Challenge.

The Chalk Art Challenge begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday where one or more artists (limit of four) will get a 5-foot-by-5-foot area of concrete to create their chalk masterpiece.

One box of pastel chalk will be provided to each registered space and a communal bucket of free chalk will be made available at the OAC tent. Participants may bring their own chalk, brushes or water but all chalk must be water-based. Only artist-designed templates are permissible.

There are several cash prizes up for grabs including Best in Show, Best Dragon Theme, Best Team, People’s Choice (voting at OAC tent), Best Teen (high school), Best Youth (middle school) and Best Child (elementary school) categories.
