Downtown to showcase wedding wares

If you’re a bride looking for your perfect wedding cake, invitations and flowers, you need not look further than downtown Oxford.
The Oxford Downtown Development Authority (DDA) is hosting its first annual Uptown Weddings in Downtown Oxford event on Saturday, January 19, from Noon-5 p.m. Stroll down Washington St. and immerse yourself in all Oxford has to offer for even the most meticulous bride.
Attendees will get to see, feel and taste the latest trends by visiting local merchants; such as A&A Flowers and Gifts, Ink & Paper, Great Lakes Mercantile, Mark A. Young Jewelers, Oxford Wine and Beverage, Regina Paul Salon, Sabrina’s Salon, Sweet & Savory Bake Shop and Victoria’s Delights.
‘Each of the businesses will give you an opportunity to sample their particular wedding planning expertise from invitations, cakes, flowers, toasting champagne as well as styling hints and secrets for that special day,? said Carolyn Bennett, executive director of the DDA.
Party favors, rehearsal dinners and shower plans will also be covered to help you plan your memorable day. Brides can also register to win a $500 gift certificate to any of the participiating merchants.
With all of these valuable resources available for brides downtown, it seemed only natural for the DDA to host such an event.
The various merchants began casually talking about having the event a while ago, and eventually, the DDA decided to give their financial support.
‘It’s almost a one-stop shop,? said Angela McLean, co-owner of Ink & Paper, which features the latest trends in invitation designs. ‘We really want to get the word out that if you’re planning a wedding, downtown Oxford is not only a great location to have a wedding (in beautiful Centennial Park with its flower gardens and quaint gazebo), but it’s also full of experts in the field that can help you plan the event.?
