As monies raised tops the $200,000 mark, the community continues their efforts to help the Schrauger family in their time of need.
A father and son team, Mark and Shawn Southern, have created a website that makes it easy for those that wish to donate to do so in with the simple click of a button.
They have set up a website, www.TimandJoshuaFund.com, where people can make a donation with their credit card using a secure PayPal account that feeds right into the bank account that has been set up for the Schraugers at Oakland County Credit Union.
‘It was a flurry of activity for the first few days, but it has slowed down a little,? Mark said, noting that 100 percent goes to the family. So far, close to $1,000 has been donated through the website.
It is Mark and Shawn’s goal to see the monies raised for the family hit the $1 million mark.
‘We want to try and help the family. This is a way to quickly donate,? Mark said. ‘I try to put myself in their situation and I can’t begin to imagine what its like. We want to do whatever we can to help them.?
The website came together after a brainstorming session between father and son where Shawn came up with the idea. For him, it was a way to honor a former classmate and friend’s memory.
Shawn is an eighth grader at Oakview Middle School, where he went to school with Tim last year, as well as sang in the choir together. The pair also had the same bus stop and would hang out there.
?(Tim) always had a positive attitude, and he was always nice,? Shawn said, adding that his friend had a good sense of humor and stuck up for people as well.
On Monday, Nov. 5, Buffalo Wild Wings Grill & Bar, located at 770 N. Lapeer Rd. in Lake Orion, will host a special fundraiser to benefit the family.
From 11 a.m. to 1 a.m., the restaurant will donate 20 percent of all sales to the Schrauger Family Fund, as well as having a hope chest that will be available for people to place donations in.
‘Our prayers go out to the entire Schrauger family, said Cheryl Macedo, vice president of advertising and marketing for JK&T Wings, Inc. ‘It is unimaginable anyone could withstand these unspeakable tragedies. To lose two incredible sons and also have a third so critically injured while fighting for our country is devastating.?
She added that the goal of the fundraiser is to help ease the family’s burden in anyway that they can help, and encouraged everyone to attend the Nov. 5 fundraiser ‘in an effort to truly make a difference to this family that is going through such a difficult time of loss and sadness.?
Look for updates on the family and continued fundraising efforts in upcoming editions of The Review, and come back next week to find out what the LOHS girls and boys cross country teams are doing on Nov. 17, their former teammate’s birthday, in honor of him and his brother.
