Even though she didn’t place, Brandon’s Kayla Doan gained valuable experience competing in the Division 2 state meet June 5 at Caledonia.
Doan was the only member of the Blackhawks? girls track team to compete at states. She raced in the 800 meter run and finished with a time of 2:26.
‘She learned a lot,? Brandon coach Greg Hyde said. ‘She’s only a sophomore, so she’s going to get better.?
The freshman on the Blackhawks? girls squad showed the future of the program is in good hands, finishing eighth out of approximately 30 teams at the Oakland County Freshman Meet May 29.
Savannah Stedman turned in a couple of stellar individual efforts, winning first place in the discus (98?2?) and the high jump (4?10?).
Two of Brandon’s relay teams also placed at the meet. The 800 meter relay team of Jamilla Richardson, Stedman, Ali Sowa, and Christina Foster placed fifth (1:56.9), while the 1500 meter relay team of Richardson, Sowa, Stedman, and Christina Hart finished third (4:37.8).
Other Brandon placers were Richardson in the 400 meters (sixth, 66.5), Sowa in the 300 meter hurdles (sixth, 53.3), and Kelly Cracium in the 3,200 meter run (fourth, 12:42).
