Dixie Highway closed after head-on crash

A driver attempting to keep her dog from escaping through a window lost control of her car late Monday, causing a head-on crash on Dixie Highway south of Maybee Road in Independence Township.
The driver, a 48-year-old Clarkston woman, was taken to Genesys Regional Medical Center with what Oakland County Sheriff deputies coded as ‘incapacitating? injuries.
Another driver, an 82-year-old Waterford man, was taken to St. Joseph Hospital with apparently less serious injuries.
According to sheriff reports, the incident occurred at about 4:30 p.m. Monday.
The offending, southbound vehicle crossed over the center line, striking a northbound vehicle and causing it to roll over. (The driver of that vehicle, a 28-year-old Holly woman, did not report injuries.) The southbound vehicle then collided head-on with the third vehicle.
Dixie Highway was closed during rush hour as emergency crews attended the injured and investigated the crash. Reports said the Clarkston woman was cited for driving left of the center line.
