In a 6-0 vote on March 27 by the Oxford Community School’s Board of Education, hired Chunchun Tang as the new ‘Director of International Programs? for Oxford schools.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Human Resources Nancy Latowski, Tang ‘will provide communication services for the Chinese International Program between Chinese and host families, act as a liaison, organize activities and programs for the China students, serve as an interpreter for visitors and provide ESL (English as a second Language) support, among other duties.? Her contract comes with a $41,977 yearly salary.
Tang said she is ‘very grateful and excited? for the opportunity to join Oxford this fall.
‘Given my passion for international education and my experience as an international student, it is a great honor to be tasked with the responsibility of introducing and integrating Chinese students into the Oxford community,? she said. ‘I feel especially fortunate and privileged to be part of a global-minded district where Mandarin learning and intercultural knowledge have been a highlighted component of the curriculum over the past few years.?
Tang has a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from Saginaw Valley State University and will have completed her Masters of Science Education in International Educational Development from the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education in August 2013. Currently she serves as a Chinese program director at the university.?
Her duties include teaching Mandarin and Chinese culture to college students, supervising and mentoring residents of the program, and organizing activities for the group.?
Tang has taught English to Chinese students, helped them prepare for the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) and IELTS (International English Language Testing System) tests, and assisted students in their languageproficiency.?
She was also involved as an interpreter for the Gerstacker Fellowship program.
While finishing up at U of Penn, Tang, who is a native of Shenyang China, said she considers Michigan as her ‘home away from home.?
‘Blessed with the support of friends and mentors, I am eager to return to Michigan and begin my journey at Oxford,? she said.
‘I sincerely look forward to joining the family of Oxford Wildcats and contributing to its international efforts.?
