Dirt to fly early Oct. in Children’s Park

Plans for downtown’s renovation are rolling forward now that bids are in and a contractor selected for the work.
The new streetscape and Children’s Park facelift was expected to cost the Downtown Development Authority (DDA) $2.12 million, but lowest bidder Dan’s Excavating says it will do the work for $1.87
The amount is about 12 percent lower than project engineers? estimates — information that has DDA Executive Director Suzanne Perreault excited.
But, she says the price tag doesn’t include small ticket items like engineering fees and soil erosion permits. The DDA will also aim to keep some funds in the bank to cover contingencies and the possibility of ‘add ons? when the project nears its completion next year.
‘Obviously we’re really concerned about the cost (of add ons,) said Perreault, but noted that something like a better drive and walkway to the parking lot next to Children’s Park would be nice.
