Three men were arrested early Monday morning after allegedly trying to steal alcohol from Devil’s Ridge Golf Club on Metamora Road.
Brandon Lee Franzel, 20, of Oxford; Kyle Edward Turley, 19, of Oxford; and Michael John McClellan II, 18, of Ortonville, were apprehended by Oakland County Sheriff’s deputies during their alleged robbery of the golf club around 1:30 a.m.
According to the sheriff’s report, when deputies arrived on the scene after a security alarm was tripped, Franzel was sitting in his 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix. He told the officers he was lost and looking for Blood Rd. He also said his two friends were behind the clubhouse.
Deputies caught Turley and McClellan with numerous liquor bottles. The men were allegedly trying to steal $305 worth of spirits (a total of 14 bottles) and a half-keg of beer.
Deputies found a large screwdriver in McClellan’s pocket, which they believe was used to force open the rear door of the clubhouse.
All three were charged and each arraigned on one felony count of breaking and entering a business. Each was released on a $25,000 personal bond with the stipulation that there be no contact between the three men.
A preliminary exam is set for March 7 in the 52-3 District Court.
CORRECTION: In the print version of this story, it was incorrectly reported that $254 in cash found on suspect Brandon Lee Franzel, 20, of Oxford, was determined to have been stolen from the clubhouse. According to Oakland County Sheriff’s Det. Guy Hubble, it was determined the money in fact belonged to Franzel. The only thing taken from the clubhouse was the $305 in alcohol.
