Brandon Twp.- A major business plan may spark significant new economic growth in the township.
Steve Collin representing Lockwood LLC presented a plan for a multiple-business development that will include a total of about 122,000 square-feet of retail space between eight separate buildings.
The township planning commission approved the preliminary general site plan for the commercial property on M-15 south of the Brandon High School entrance along M-15 south to Elizabeth Street.
The plan features a restaurant, bank, gas station, general retail space and a 70,000 square-foot market. A total of 669 parking spaces are needed for the project, each site will have individual wells and draw off two septic systems. No further details or time-line was provided regarding which businesses are eyeing the property.
By a 7-0 vote the commission OK’d the plan which includes utilizing fill dirt from the Brandon High School parking lot excavation project currently in progress. The fill is necessary, said Collin, to make the property buildable and attractive for the commercial sites.

Joseph Rohovsky, commission chairperson, said the conditions were to stay away from Kearsley Creek which borders the east side of the property.
Collins responded to the concerns by saying the wetland area will be protected from possible runoff by ‘silt screens? which are already in place. The screens hold back mud from entering the Kearsley Creek.
