After six years of being Deputy Clerk for Oxford Township, Renee Wilson handing the reigns over to her administrative assistant Susan McCullough.
After receiving her municipal clerk certification from Oakland Community College, Wilson got hired to take over as clerk for the City of Fenton, which is why she is resigning.
‘It’s closer to home and closer to my family,? she said. ‘It’s the next logical professional step to take.?
Wilson, who grew up in Holly and graduated from Holly High School in 1997 got hired by Oxford Township as an administrative assistant in 2001 until landing the deputy clerk position in 2007 after former Deputy Clerk Beth Johnson retired.
‘I actually really enjoy the clerk’s office,? she said. I’ve met quite a few residents. During election time I’ve met people that work the polls and do the ballots and certainly enjoyed everybody I’ve met.?
I’ve worked for two great clerks Clara Anderson and Curtis Wright. They are just good honest people,? continued Wilson. ‘Anybody who wants to run for public office should take a page out of their book on how you should act treat your employees. I can’t say enough good things about them.?
As far as McCullough taking over her position, Wilson said ‘she’s more than adequate? to take her place.
‘We’ve been working together for almost the past two weeks to get the transitioning done as soon as possible,? added Wilson. ‘She is familiar with everything that goes on in this office anyways, so I think it will be a seamless as it can be.?
McCullough was appointed by the board as the new deputy clerk at the Aug. 14 council meeting with wages set at Grade 4, Step 9 which is currently $48,545 per year.
McCullough, who is an Oxford graduate, began working for the township through job corp. when she was in high school.
‘I worked for the township back and forth,? she said. ‘There was a period of time where I went and worked for the township attorney and then didn’t work for awhile when I had my family.?
McCullough came back to work for the township part-time in elections in 2000 and than was moved to administrative assistant when Wilson received the deputy clerk position in 2007.
‘While I am sad to see her go because we get along well and work together well,? noted McCullough. ‘It was just the next logical step to move from administrative assistant to deputy, so I am thankful for the opportunity.?
Township Clerk Curtis Wright called the situation ‘bittersweet.?
‘You hate to see experienced people leave, but you’re pleased to see they’re able to get employment elsewhere. Their demand is definitely welcomed somewhere else. If somebody has the ability to move on and better themselves then that’s good for them,? Wright said. ‘Renee has spent a lot of time in oxford and I appreciated my experience with her. She’s definitely helped me along the way to keep the clerks department functioning in a top notch manner.?
However, Wright is excited to have McCullough step up into new positioning as well.
‘I am sure she’ll step in and help us pick up the pace and keep moving forward,? he said.
