Formal charges were pending on Monday against two men caught at the scene of an apparent burglary attempt at the Dairy Dream as Sashabaw and Maybee roads.
After being dispatched for a possible vandalism incident at about 2:25 a.m. on Monday, deputies found a 19-year-old Clarkston man near the restaurant.
A deputy found a ‘missed call? number on the suspect’s cell phone caller ID. He called the number and heard another man warning about police cars at the scene.
Pretending to be the first suspect, the deputy lured a 19-year-old Waterford man with the apparent getaway car to the rear of the nearby Kroger store for a ‘pickup.? Other deputies stopped the car and made the second arrest.
In addition to charges possible from the break-in, the second man could be prosecuted for carrying a concealed weapon after deputies found brass knuckles and throwing stars in his vehicle.
Also found in the vehicle were a hammer, camcorder and $77 cash, reports said.
The glass in the restaurant entrance door was found broken out, reports said, but a manager was unable to immediately tell if anything was missing from the store.
