It’s been 25 years since D.L. Bonner Jewelers, 431 Mill St., first opened in the village.
‘They told me it would never work,? said David Bonner, a Detroit native who opened his store in 1983. ‘The statistics indicated that it would take 35,500 residents to support a jeweler. At that time, there were only about 9,000 in the area. But we attracted customers from Goodrich and Atlas Township’today they come from Davison, Holly and Clarkston.?
‘Whether you spend $8 or $8,000, we treat you the same.?
The store offers products from approximately 15 to 20 different companies and is an exclusive supplier of Bonnici watches, made just for D.L. Bonner.
A member of the Jewelers Board of Trade, Bonner says the key to his success is strong buying power, service and quality.
‘We can go anywhere in the world and buy jewelry,’said Bonner. ‘It’s all American made. It’s easy today to receive products from China, but that’s not going to happen here.?
‘Things are tight right now in the economy, but with a great customer base, we’re doing great,? said Bonner.
