John and Sylvia Graham, who live on Indianwood Road, would like to see the Road Commission for Oakland County install a street light in front of their residence to prevent more accidents from happening. The couple live on a curve, and have reported numerous accidents on their property already.
The couple was unable to attend the March 3 Orion Township Board meeting, so their daughter Jane Nido of Rocheser Hills represented them and told the board that five accidents had occurred on her parents’ property, with people missing the curve on Indianwood Road.
“We’re afraid someone might hurt themselves because of this situation,” she said.
Nido said her parents were also requesting a guard rail in addition to the street light, as well as red reflectors around the signs.
“They’ve owned the property since 1994,” she said. “With the proposed (condos) coming in down the road, that will only increase the traffic.”
Trustee Eric Wilson said there was a similar problem at the Baldwin and Indianwood intersection, and that flashing lights had been put on the signs there.
“I’m not sure your mom and dad want that light flashing,” he said.
“That’s not their concern,” said Nido. “Their concern is they’ve had five accidents on their property.”
“This board has been kind of stingy with street lights,” said supervisor Jerry Dywasuk. “There’s a couple in that area already.”
The board voted to correspond with the Road Commission for Oakland County, sending them the minutes of the meeting and requesting a guard rail and flashing lights for the area.
