County offers snake education class

Oakland County Parks manages areas inhabited by Michigan’s only venomous snake, the Eastern Massasauga Rattlesnake. This shy and well-camouflaged snake can be found along park trails.
The Eastern Massasauga can be particularly dangerous for unsuspecting dogs. As such, Oakland County Parks will host a rattlesnake recognition class for dog owners on April 19 from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at Orion Oaks Dog Park.
Learn how to recognize this protected snake and avoid its bite. Live snakes will help with identification. To register, call (248)858-0704.
Also on April 19, from 2-3 p.m. at Wint Nature Center at Independence Oaks in Clarkston, Oakland County Parks will host a rattlesnake recognition class. For more on that class, call (248)625-6473.
