Groveland Twp.-Water over about a quarter-mile of County Line Road just east of M-15 has Chuck Duff and a handful of other County Line Road residents seeking answers.
‘This road has gotten worse over the past three years,? said Duff, who lives about a half-mile east of M-15 on County Line Road. ‘The county has put tons of gravel on the road and it just never gets any better. This year the road is almost gone’they need to drain that water.?
Duff, neighbors, and township officials have been in contact with the Road Commission for Oakland County in an effort to drain water that has flooded the roadway and several residents? driveways.
Township Supervisor Bob DePalma was advised by the road commission that a 1,000-foot ditch along the north side of County Line Road would help alleviate some of the water. However, on Wednesday afternoon, DePalma said a road commission foreman explained that a ditch would not work due to lack of area to drain the water.
A more extensive drain was proposed on Consumers Energy property adjacent to the flood area. The project could take months, say county officials.
‘We just can’t wait three months for permits from the Department of Environmental Quality to come through,? said DePalma. ‘Residents? driveways are in jeopardy and each year aggregate is added to raise the road bed. It needs to be resolved right now.?
On Wednesday, DePalma contacted the office of Senator Deb Cherry (D-26) to help rectify the issue.
At press time, no definitive information had been received from the RCOC or Sen. Cherry’s office.
‘The water needs to be drained off the fields along County Line Road down to Kearsley Creek,? said DePalma.
‘Possibly field tile in a century-old potato field may have deteriorated causing the flood.?
