The Oxford varsity swimmers lost their first meet of the season against Corunna High School last Wednesday 48-125.
Although it was a disappointing loss, coach Jackie Boswell said it was a ‘really good meet? and that she’s ‘very proud of the girls.?
‘There are a lot of ways that the girls can improve, and over the next few weeks they will see their times drop,? she said.
On Wednesday, the 200-medley relay team of sophomore Allison Woonton, junior Caroline Kerbelis and freshmen Jenna Mallard and Anna Daves took third place with a time of 2:15.10.
Freshman Sarah Skelton and sophomore Kaitlyn Kimmel earned points for the team in the 200-freestyle by placing 4th and 5th, respectively.
Woonton took first in the 200-IM with a time of 2:28.70. She also won the 100-backstroke with a time of 1:07.21, a full seven seconds ahead of the second place swimmer.
Sophomore Olivia Martin took first in the diving portion of the meet, with a score of 135.6, followed by points from sophomore Molly Bonfiglio and senior Anna Bonfiglio.
In the 200-freestyle relay event, the team of senior Kera Presbie, sophomore Alexis Desotell, junior Brianna Pastewski and Daves took third place to earn Oxford two points.
Senior Tara Nieboer and junior Lindsey Krawciw received 4th and 5th place, respectively, for their finishing time in the 100-breastroke.
One of the most exciting races was the 400-freestyle relay, where Mallard, Skelton, sophomore Jennie Sunman and Woonton came from behind to secure a second place finish.
The girls? Flint Metro League record now stands at 0-1. They take on Clio Thursday at home at 6 p.m.
