When Country Coney owners Scott and Lori Pike heard area restaurants were donating sales and tips to help survivors of the December 2004 tsunami disaster in South Asia, they thought it was a great idea and enlisted in the cause.
‘We all talked about it and thought it was a good way to help out,? said Scott, adding that he and Lori also thought it was a good vehicle for customers who were unsure how or where to donate.
‘It gives us a chance to give back,? Scott said.
Word spread among their regular customers in Oxford and on Friday diners came in droves to eat and help tsunami survivors with their dollars.
Twenty-percent of Country Coney’s sales Friday and 100 percent of waitresses Lori Steffes and Bekie Dawdy’s tips equalled an $890 donation for the Red Cross Tsunami Relief Fund.
‘We were pretty pleased,? said Scott. ‘People were pretty generous to the Red Cross.?
Oxford’s Tool Sport & Sign Co. supplied ‘Tips for Tsunami? T-shirts for all the area restaurants who participated in the fund-raiser.
