Friend, businessman and father’Jack Quigley will be remembered by the community and family for his tireless work efforts, neighborly spirit and compassion toward others.
Quigley, of Ortonville, died Aug. 24.
He was 78.
Born in Flint, Quigley moved to the Clarkston area where he worked on a farm. At 14-years-old he hitchhiked to California to join the Army.
‘Then he turned around and hitchhiked all the way back,? said Wanda Quigley, his wife of 58 years. ‘He wanted to join, but he was just too young. They made him wait until he was older to join.?
Quigley joined the Navy about 1946 and served in the South Pacific toward the end of World War II. He later married Wanda (Werner) in 1949.
Quigley retired from General Dynamics in 1990 after many years as an air conditioning specialist. He has owned several businesses, including the Chuck Wagon Restaurant and Ak’wa Water Company of Ortonville. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church of Hadley Township.

‘He’d drop anything he was doing to help someone out. It was never an imposition to assist people. He was still working at 78-years-old’it was just not work to him.?
Surviving are (Ken) Skinner of Fennville, Wanda (Bob) Brydges of Flint, Christina (Roger) Tacey of Lake Orion, Peter (Theresa) of AuGres, Scott (Karen) of Davison, Jack (Jane) of Ortonville and David (Christine) of Belgium. Also survived by 18 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Aug. 28 from the Sherman Wilk Funeral Home 135 South St. Ortonville. Pastor Kelly Todd officiated, with interment at the Ortonville Cemetery.
