At the urging of Council President Rob Reetz, the Lake Orion Village Council formed a committee last week to look into the possibilities for a village website.
President Pro Tem David Churchill and Councilman Ken Van Portfliet will serve on the committee, as will resident Doug Hobbs.
Hobbs had presented an idea for gathering public input to the council earlier in the meeting, prompting council to appoint him.
The committee will look into operation, set-up and maintenance of a website, among other things, and then report back to council.
The Downtown Development Authority currently has a website with several pages, including one offering background on the village offices.
DDA Director Lois Golden gave council some background on how to construct a site, offering her assistance down the road.
Reetz was originally looking for a 60-day deadline to have a site up and running, but other council members had concerns with that abbreviated timeline. A date was left out of the final motion.
‘Maybe as we interview for a new manager, we can look to see if someone has experience with this,? Councilman Mike Toth said.
Other concerns centered on the costs of both starting and maintaining a site.
‘This hasn’t been approved yet for the budget,? Councilman Doug Dendel noted. ‘We’ve got a tight budget. We’ve got to look at what this is going to cost us and everything else.?
Outgoing Manager JoAnn Van Tassel said Police Chief Jerry Narsh acquired a web domain years ago, but nothing has been done with regards to construction of the site.
It reads: ‘Welcome to the future website for the Village of Lake Orion located in Oakland County Michigan. Please be patient with us while we construct our site.?
