Clio High School may join Flint Metro League

Brandon High School may soon have a new neighbor in the Flint Metro League.
Dr. Michael Ferguson, principal at BHS, said that Clio High School has formally applied to join the Flint Metro League, which currently consists of seven schools: Brandon, Oxford, Holly, Lapeer East, Lapeer West, Linden, and Fenton.
Since Clio has already made their formal application, Ferguson said the next step is for the other schools in the district to judge Clio based on criteria such as their academics, size of the school, number of athletic programs, and past history of crowd control.
He also said last week, a subcommittee of principals, athletic directors, and Student Council representatives from the other Flint Metro schools toured Clio and saw firsthand their facilities and programs.
Ferguson said sometime in April or May, Clio will get a chance to come to a meeting of Flint Metro League principals, at which point they will present their programs and receive a review of last week’s visitation.
‘Clio has indicated they want to be involved in scheduling for the 2005-06 school year, so having a meeting in June wouldn’t do any good,? Ferguson said.
Another Flint Metro topic of concern this year has been the very name of the league. Earlier this year, the respective student councils of the league agreed to try and come up with a different name for the league, but to no avail so far.
‘No one has come up with a solution,? Ferguson said. ‘The kids in each school have been involved.?
