The Oxford voters spoke loud and clear in the August 5 primary, electing Curtis W. Wright to serve as township clerk with more than 51 percent of the vote, divided among three candidates.
Despite earning almost twice as many votes as his closest opponent, Courtney Grove, Wright, 48, has no plans to spend much time basking.
In fact, he sees his work already cut out for him.
‘I’d like to get more people registered to vote, along with reviewing the existing filing system of all township records to see if it needs any more enhancement,? said Wright.
He added that the records would include those for meetings, ordinances, contracts and other forms of important paperwork.
Wright feels that what possibly helped him in the election was the previous experience he brought to the table.
He’s worked in engineering, land surveying, accounting and human resources.
The lifetime Oxford resident also is experienced in township government, having served as township supervisor from 1994 to 1998.
He also has an extsive background of community service and volunteering in the community.
‘I do not want to take away anything away from the other candidates,? Wright said, referring to Grove and Doleen Behnke.
‘It’s a tribute to them to make the attempt to get elected. I’m glad to see a lot of participation. I’m thankful for the people who did vote for me.?
