Clarkston teen awarded Eagle Scout honor?

Cullen Kappel, 18, of Clarkston, received his Eagle Scout Award during a Troop 377 Court of Honor ceremony, Aug. 10, at the American Legion Post 377, Waterford.
‘It is indeed an honor to recognize this young man for his hard work and focus towards earning scouting’s highest award,? said Scoutmaster Randy Stelpflug.
Kappel began as a Cub Scout with Pack 163 at Independence Elementary School in 1998, advancing through the ranks of Tiger, Wolf, Bear and Webelo. He joined Boy Scouts in high school.
He earned 21 merit badges and camped at Lost Lake. This past June, he attended a weeklong, high adventure trek at the Double H ranch in New Mexico.
He served as patrol leader for six months and senior patrol leader for a year.? In 2008, his fellow scouts elected him to the Order of the Arrow, and he hopes to continue with the troop as assistant scoutmaster.
For his Eagle project, Kappel led a crew of 25 volunteers in creating a pet cemetery at Church of the Resurrection Anglican Episcopal on Clarkston Road.?
Kappel is a student at Oakland Community College, studying environmental engineering with a secondary interest in finance.?
“We could not help but be impressed by his organization and skill at supervising this daunting project,” said Diane Clark, vestry clerk for the church. “We have no doubt that Cullen, regardless of his choice of career or education will be dedicated to excellence and a high standard of personal honor and responsibility.?
