Ten Clarkston High School students made a special visit to the May 9 Clarkston Community Schools Board of Education meeting to be honored as part of the ‘Top Ten Seniors? of the year.
The 2005 graduating ‘Top Ten Seniors? include: Alyssa Delke, Elizabeth Eastman, Michael Holody, Allyson Marie Kowalk, Amanda Leach, Scott Leigh, Lauren Little, Gillian Nordquist, Nicholas Puroll and Betsy Varnau.
Each student carried a 3.7 G.P.A or higher throughout their high school career; not to mention involvement in extra curricular and sports activities.
Alyssa Delke, daughter to Thomas and Elaine, plans to attend the University of Michigan to study engineering. Some of her involvements and awards include: Clarkston Foundation Excellence in Science Award; gymnastics ? third place regional all -around and state champion; gymnastics leadership; National Honor Society; Octagon Club; middle school tutor and NHS community service.
Elizabeth Eastman, daughter to James and Robin, plans to attend Grand Valley State University Honors College to study biomedical/health sciences. Eastman’s involvements include: Junior Dancer of the Year; JV Poms Scholar Athlete; Quill & Scroll; National Honor Society; Student of the Month; first place copy/caption writing; ‘Who’s Who,? National Honor Roll; yearbook editor 2003-04 and 2004-05; peer mentor; ‘Butterflies in Flight,? and teen court.
Michael Holody, son to Dan and Nancy, plans to attend the University of Michigan to study engineering. Holody’s involvements include: varsity soccer for four years; all state for four years; National Honor Society; Capuchin Soup Kitchen and St. Pat’s Senior Center.
Allyson Marie Kowalk, daughter to Steve and Cindy, plans to attend Albion College to study pre-medicine. Her involvements and service include: Honor Roll (2001-2005); Detroit News Student of the Month (2005); Detroit free Press Writing Award Winner (2002); Clarkston Coalition for Youth Executive Board Member; National Honor Society ? president; Scholar Athlete Award (2003, 2004); Octagon Club ? treasurer; freshmen mentoring; peer mediation; German Club; teen council; teen court; student council; Independence Township Parks and recreation Advisory Board Member; and JV and Varsity tennis.
Amanda Leach, daughter to Randy and Lynne, plans to attend the University of Michigan to study pre-medicine. Leach’s involvements include: varsity soccer ? three year starter and captain senior year; JV basketball ? captain; JV tennis; Class Executive Board; National Honor Society; Student Advisory Board and St. Daniel’s Youth Group.
Scott Leigh, son to Brian and Susan, plans to attend the University of Michigan to study engineering. Leigh’s involvements include: varsity football ‘captain, first team all -league, honorable mention all county, baseball, basketball, MYAF Award for poetry, National Honor Society and Rush for Food.
Lauren Little, daughter to Chris and Tracey, plans to attend Marquette University to study nursing. Little’s involvements include: varsity tennis, National High School All-American, state champion #1 Singles 2004 and the National Honor Society.
Gillian Nordquist, daughter to Martha and Steven, plans to attend Bucknell University to study journalism/international business. Nordquist’s involvements include: cross-country, track, National Honor Society, S.T.A.R Club and school newspaper.
Nicholas Puroll, son to Martin and Judy, plans to attend Michigan Tech to study mechanical engineering. Puroll’s involvements include: track, cross country, Web Club, Octagon Club and National Honor Society.
Betsy Varnau, daughter to Victor and Janice, plans to attend the University of Michigan to study business/international studies. Varnau’s involvements include: varsity pom pon squad, peer listening, National Honor Society, Drama Club, French Club, S.T.A.R Club, S.A.D.D Club, student leadership and competitive dance team.
These seniors were recognized by principal Jan Meagher, school board members, and family and friends. Congratulations on being the brightest and best!
