The Clarkston Optimist club worked hard creating their float design for this year’s holiday parade.
The group based their design on the Polar Express, to go along with the Chamber’s theme, The Heart of Clarkston Holiday Parade.
The club was fortunate to have many volunteers ? three adults and 30 students help with the project. Also, 80 students from the Clarkston and Sashabaw Junior Optimist Club, Andersonville Elementary and Clarkston Elementary Alpha Clubs, and the Clarkston High School Octagon Club participated in the parade.
Once advisors determined a theme, each club focused on their portion of the entry and worked on lighting for the float. Clarkston Middle School club put their focus on building the float. The group was able to secure a spot at Lowrie Landscaping to build the float, which took two days.
‘My favorite part of the process is working with the kids to make the float and seeing them get excited about being in the parade,? said Mike Page, president of the Clarkston Optimist Club.
Everyone worked hard toward completing the project; unfortunately, due to high winds, the float fell apart on the way to the parade staging area.
‘I felt bad that the kids worked so hard and everyone didn’t get to see their efforts,? said Page. ‘The kids had a great time being together and being a part of the community’s play.?
The Clarkston Optimist Club enjoyed their part in the parade and will absolutely participate next year.
